Social Justice Mission Outreach:
Our mission statement is: “Based on Gospel teachings and Catholic social values, the Social Justice Committee will be the voice for the needs of the poor, lonely, downtrodden, misunderstood and vulnerable in our society.”
Keeping in mind the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching Documents of our church and making an effort to bring awareness to our parish cluster community of the needs of the poor and marginalized both on a local, and a global level, the Social Justice Committee has created a focus calendar. The purpose of this calendar is to guide and organize our efforts to become educated and to respond to those in need.
You will notice that each month the calendar sets a focus on an organization or project that asks for donations of funds, goods or time as well as an awareness piece that simply gives information about a justice concern. The latter may ask for signatures or political action. By doing this we will be educating as well as supporting various people in need, both through charity and justice. This calendar does appreciate that at times, there are emergencies and items of concern that are time sensitive and in need of an immediate response. They will be considered as they arise.
In order to further unify our family of parishes, all parishes will focus on the same outreach projects at the same time. This will facilitate our efforts to distribute information and assist our parishioners who move back and forth between sites to support outreach projects more easily.
To help inform and form ourselves we will be adding each particular cause to the Universal Prayer intentions during mass, adding a representative basket of ‘goods’ for the group we are collecting for to the Offertory gift procession, promoting and informing through the use of bulletin boards, handouts and bulletin articles.
Thank you for your support as we work to respond to those in need. Should you wish to take part in the prayer, discernment and dialogue, please contact the Social Justice Committee. New members are always welcome.
Our Social Justice Committee meets every month on the third Thursday of every other month at Blessed Sacrament Hall at 6:00pm. (Please call office to check when the next meeting is taking place.) We discuss and organize the outreach initiatives, and create awareness for charity and justice in our cluster. Everyone is welcome to join in this important ministry.
