In order to be eligible to be married at one of the parishes in the Chatham Catholic Family of Parishes, one member of the proposed couple must be an active participant of the Roman Catholic Religion and ideally, a registered member of the parish. Both bride and groom must be "free to marry in the Roman Catholic Church."
Any person who has been previously married in the Church or civilly married, and whose previous spouse is still alive, regardless of civil divorce or civil annulment, will need to discuss with the priest or deacon whether they are free to marry in the Catholic church.
Your first step is to contact the parish to check the availability of your preferred date - to complete the process of preparing for this sacrament properly, at least one year notice is recommended - it could be more depending on your situation, so please contact the church as soon as possible after you are engaged. Please contact Cathy Zimmer (czimmer@dol.ca) by email or by calling 519-352-9483 ext 243.
This booklet may answer some of your questions, however, we would be happy to answer any questions you have when you call the office.
