The role of the Host at Mass is a volunteer position and are considered an ambassador of the church at each Mass.
Hosts are required to be punctual and time conscious as they are required to be in the church far earlier than the rest of the congregation. They must arrive early and prepare themselves through prayer. Adequate spiritual preparation by the usher ensures a service full of the presence of God.
Hosts may perform the following:
• Greet people entering the service.
• Seat attendees (though it is common for attendees to seat themselves).
• Collect the offerings.
• Keep order at the entrance.
• After Mass clean and tidy the Church.
• Count people in service.
• Distribute and collect surveys and visitor pamphlets.
• Distribute bulletins and service programmes.
